Jobs are temporary. Parenting is for life.

Unlike any other job we perform, parenting lasts a lifetime.  Ironically, as the most profound responsibility we will ever have, it is the only job for which our society believes no preparation or training is necessary.  While being completely prepared may be an unrealistic expectation, assuming we will instinctively know what to do is equally erroneous. Each of our children is like every other child and, at the same time, unlike any other child, so there is no one way to parent, making parenting an extraordinary undertaking. 

 Since we can only do what we know, gathering information and gaining experience seem like worthwhile pursuits. The more you know, the more you can do. Here we will examine the knowledge, skills, and practices that may prove advantageous in the ongoing process of becoming the parents our children need as we endeavor to create our HeARTful Home.
