Many of life’s lessons are learned in the garden.
The amount of time spent in the garden has been directly proportional to the ages of my sons. When they were very young, very little gardening was done. I was preoccupied with growing boys instead of growing plants. Whenever there was a chance to add something to our yard’s flora, we selected hardy perennials that required minimal care. They have faithfully graced us with their lush greenery and vibrant blossoms.
Over the past few years, with both boys living elsewhere, the garden has become a refuge from my loneliness. Carrying out the recurring tasks of planting, watering, weeding, and pruning is comforting and yields glorious rewards. Sharing the bounty with friends and family produces abundant pleasure. Here is where you will find gardening tips, photos from my friendship garden, and musings inspired by experiences and observations in the garden with relevance to our aspirations for creating A HeARTful Home.
